Sunshine Children’s Home
Sunshine Children’s Home is located on land donated by Hope Community Church just off the Kansas Turnpike at the 21st Street exit, in Andover – 1918 N. Prairie Creek Rd. It can house up to 15 children. The official open date was October 27, 2014. SCARF completed a $2.5 million capital campaign for the construction of the home. The annual fundraiser, The Buckaroo Ball of Butler County, also supports this and other operations of SCARF.
About Sunshine Children’s Home
All too often, children have to be taken into temporary protective custody until either a healthy reintegration into the family can be accomplished or other longer term arrangements can be made. Sunshine Children’s Home provides a temporary residence for these children, closer to home, and without separating them from their siblings.
Sunshine Children’s Home is a project of the Sunlight Children’s Advocacy and Rights Foundation (SCARF). The children’s home provides temporary residential services primarily for children who reside in the 13th judicial district, comprised of Butler, Elk, and Greenwood counties. These children have unique needs and come from rural areas. We believe, when these children are faced with hardships grievous enough to warrant their removal from their homes and caregivers, they are best served by caring professionals in their own community.
SCH’s current needs include new toys for all ages, toys that can be sent with children in their bag/backpack, puzzles for young children, Barbie dolls, Hot Wheels, trucks, new coloring books, adult coloring books, colored pencils, pencil sharpeners, journals, brainteaser puzzles, anything from the movie Frozen, anything Minecraft, toddler clothes, sweatpants and basketball shorts for teens, individual snacks, animal crackers, fish crackers, deodorant, hairbrushes, laundry detergent, and dishwasher soap. For more information about our current needs, please contact the administrators at 316-733-6700 or email@example.com
Sunshine Children’s Home has begun volunteer training for interested groups or individuals. Any volunteer interested in working directly with the children must be at least 21 years old. All other volunteers must be at least 16 (to do gardening, service projects, etc.). If you would like more information, or would like to be added to the volunteer list, please contact our SCH Administrative Assistant, Jade Powell, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 316-733-6700
