A Promise Kept:
Sunshine Children’s Home
Need for a children’s home in Butler County:

30% of population in county are children
-
Butler County SRS had 768 assigned cases concerning children's welfare in 2010.

Butler County abuse reports are surpassed only by those counties surrounding Wichita, Salina and Kansas City.

Presently children are taken to Wichita Children’s Home:

49 children from the 13th Judicial District admitted in 2010
-
Increased time and expense for transport by law enforcement
-
Children separated from school, family support and often, siblings
-
Annual fundraiser, the Buckaroo Ball, has raised approximately $220,000 as seed money for the construction of Sunshine Children’s Home.
Current Progress:

Task force formed in November 2008 comprised of 15 community volunteers, SCARF board members and related agency employees, completed by WSU in March 2009.

Needs assessment completed by Wichita State University.
- GLMV Architecture provided preliminary phase renderings (seen here).
- Hope Community Church of Andover donated 3 acres of land.
